Physiotherapy

Jon Charman

Jon Charman - Practice Director and Physiotherapist
Jon became director of Fontwell Physio in 2018 after working at the clinic for 12 years. He gained his BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree from the University of East London in 2001 and began his career in London. Following on from his rotations, Jon moved to the prestigious King Edward VII hospital before settling at Fontwell Physio in 2006. In 2010 he returned to university to study for his Pg Cert in Trauma and Orthopaedics under world renowned upper-limb specialist Professor Len Funk. He has continually added to his skills by attending symposiums and courses.

Jon has a special interest in shoulder and upper limb rehab as well as lower limb sports injuries and will assist in post operative recovery programmes. He has worked closely alongside our local surgeons for a number of years and continues to maintain close working relationships with them. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of Chichester.

Outside of work Jon is married with two daughters and, time allowing, enjoys golf and scuba diving.

Linda Exelby

Linda Exelby - Physiotherapist
Linda has over 35 years of experience as a clinician. During this time she achieved a post-graduate degree specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She is a fellow of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) and was a founder member of the Mulligan Concept Teachers Association (MCTA). Until recently she was also a senior lecturer on the Masters' programme for the University of Hertfordshire and remains an honorary lecturer there. Linda has lectured nationally and internationally to further develop Physiotherapists' professional development.

Listening to the patient’s story, identifying their personal goals and adapting treatment specific to their requirements is her priority. Key elements of her treatments include manual therapy (soft tissue and joint) and exercise prescription, in particular correction of movement dysfunction/motor control and progressive rehabilitation.

Her particular expertise and research interests lie in the assessment and treatment of:
  • Hips
  • Spinal/Sacroiliac pain
  • Tendinopathy rehabilitation
Linda keeps fit cycling, swimming, hill walking, gardening and attending a gym. She used to compete in the odd triathlon.

Amanda Foxwell

Mark Jones - Physiotherapist

Amanda has over 20 years of experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist and is a Clinical Pilates instructor. She has completed a post graduate diploma in Sports Physiotherapy and is registered with the Acupuncture Association for Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP). Amanda has worked with runners and cyclists working on a diagnosis, treatment and prevention of injuries using biomechanical assessments, including bike fits.


Amanda is a First Contact Practioner at a GP surgery, which is a triage service to enable patients to receive early advice to help with a quick recovery or to be assessed and referred on to a consultant for further investigations. 


Outside of work, Amanda enjoys trail running and completed her first ultramarathon last year. She likes the challenge of the longer distances and has completed two Ironman triathlons and cycling in the mountains in Europe. Her two labradors are retired to short walks these days.

Katie Cleeves

Mark Jones - Physiotherapist

Katie has over 20 years of experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 15 years working in the private sector treating musculoskeletal conditions. She is qualified in acupuncture and is registered with the Acupuncture Association for Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).


Katie enjoys treating all things musculoskeletal including sports injuries, spinal dysfunctions, degenerative conditions and post-operative rehabilitation. She likes to combine manual therapy with soft tissue release, electrotherapy, acupuncture and therapeutic exercise to successfully treat her patients.


Katie is currently studying to gain her MSc in veterinary physiotherapy and in the future is hoping to treat horses and dogs alongside her human work.


Outside of work, Katie spends most of her time riding and looking after her horse and also taking part in local competitions.

Alex Ward

Alex Ward - Sports Therapy and Massage

Alex graduated from the University of Chichester with BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy, following a career in professional rugby, personal training and sports massage therapy. He initially began working at Fontwell Physiotherapy as a strength and conditioning specialist, but it soon became clear that he would be a huge asset to the Physiotherapy profession and returned to University.


He finds working with people to achieve their goals, whether that be rehabilitation or body transformation, incredibly rewarding. Alex is one of the newest members of our expanding team and is a huge asset to Fontwell Physio.

Mark Jones

Mark Jones - Physiotherapist
Mark is a highly experienced Physiotherapist, with over 20 years of clinical experience and is well known to our local GPs from his work in the region's specialist musculoskeletal clinics. He has worked alongside some of the region's most eminent physicians and surgeons.

Mark offers specialist injection therapies, having had over 10 years of experience in this field. He qualified as one of the UK's first physiotherapists to register as an independent prescriber. Thanks to his unique skills, Fontwell Physio is one of the few private practices offering specialist injection therapies under the care of an independent prescriber.

Hydrotherapy

Jayne Bradley

Jayne Bradley - Hydrotherapy Instructor
Jayne is a qualified Technical Instructor (II) in physiotherapy and has over 30 years of experience specialising in all things Aqua, therefore, her main role is managing the pool and classes. She is a great motivator and will plan a structured rehabilitation programme for you.
Jayne is a very keen sportswoman and combines her clinical skills with her love for fitness.

Jayne runs all of our hugely popular Aqua classes in our fantastic hydrotherapy unit. She is also available for home visits to assist with rehabilitation.

Sports Therapy and Massage

Louise Barlow

Louise Barlow - Sports Therapy and Massage
Louise completed Bsc (Hons) in Sports Therapy at Chichester University in 2011. 

She worked alongside Wendy Rofe at Portsmouth Sports Injury Clinic for 7 years gaining valuable experience working in the clinical setting, running rehabilitation weight training programmes and back classes. 

Louise uses a multi-disciplinary approach, combining manual therapy, sports massage, electrotherapy and rehabilitation exercise programmes to aid maximum recovery. With experienced clinical reasoning, assessment and diagnosis Louise can determine the appropriate course of treatment.

Louise has always stayed active having swam competitively from a young age to most recently taking up weight training. She has a positive mental attitude and loves to see her clients approach their rehabilitation with confidence. 

Podiatry

Dr Ian Robinson

Dr Ian Robinson - Podiatry
Ian qualified as a podiatrist from the School of Podiatry at the University of Salford in 1988. After gaining experience at a range of podiatry clinics, he specialised in musculoskeletal podiatry work. This brought him to the south coast in 1991, where he gained experience working in the NHS and private sectors and working with a number of specialist physiotherapists, orthotists and Rheumatology, Radiology and Orthopaedic Consultants. Ian was keen to continue in education, gaining a Teaching Certificate, a BSc Honours degree and eventually in 2005 a PhD in Biomechanics studying the foot and ankle. Throughout this time and since, he has maintained contact with local universities and remains as a guest lecturer at the University of Chichester.

Ian is available at Fontwell Physiotherapy for two early evening clinics.

Fernanda Caraffa

Fernanda Caraffa - Nutrition Consultation
Fernanda is a qualified Nutritionist, graduating in 2005 with a BSc (Hons) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. She has added to her qualifications with an AfN certified Level 4 diploma in nutrition and weight management which combined pre and post-natal Nutrition, Childhood Nutrition, Obesity prevention and Nutrition for Sport and Exercise. She has full membership of the Federation of Nutritional Therapy Practitioners (FNTP) and the Association of UK Dieticians (BDA).
